Lucas Bryant to Star in the Series "Shoot the Messenger"

Elyse Levesque, Lucas Bryant, Lyriq Bent, and Alex Kingston have been cast in the new Hungry Eyes Film and Television hour-long drama "Shoot the Messenger," which is being produced in association with CBC Television (Canadian Broadcasting Corporation), and ITV.

The eight-episode series, which hails from the multi-award winning creative team of Jennifer Holness and Sudz Sutherland (whose past feature films, most recently "Home Again," have been covered on this blog), is described as a gritty political thriller that centers on the complex relationships between crime reporters and the police.

Haven Scoop: TV Line

When Haven returns, how is Duke going to handle knowing he’s unleashed all those troubles? –Aimee
As we await word on when Season 5 of the Syfy drama will resume, I hope I can tide you over with this: Presented with your question, executive producer Matt McGuinness answers, “Duke will struggle with the guilt of causing some serious pain to the town, and deal with it in a very Duke way: By being selfish, noble, clever, and brave — in that order.”

Spoilers: Duke’s New Troubles Out Of Control

'Haven'
Some mid-season finale spoilers have been revealed for "Haven." This Friday's episode will pick up where we left off after the major bombshell was dropped about Dr. Cross being Audrey and Mara's mother. We also saw Dwight fall for Dr. Cross, but the fact that she's not who he thought she was might change things between them.

5.12 Chemistry Recap

The morning after is never quite what you expect, especially when you are waking up next to Haven‘s resident psychotic evil queen. Mara wants to cuddle up with some pillow talk, but Duke is not in the mood. With his Mara sexcapades out of his system, Duke is ready to hunt for aether. Mara has come a long way in season five. Just a few episodes ago she was chained in Duke’s basement. Now he is giving Mara full range of his cabin while he takes a jaunt around the neighborhood.

While he is trying to track down the elusive black glue, Duke gets a distress call from Mara. He rushes back to the cabin, but Mara is gone and the place is a wreck. Duke catches a break (or so it seems) and finds some DNA from the kidnapper. Gloria manages to identify the DNA as Kirk, the oxygen-sucking man.

Dwight wants to give the rest of the aether to Charlotte for research, but of course it is not in the safe. Nathan assumes that Duke has it, but he quickly figures out that Kirk is the thief. Something fishy is definitely going on with this Kirk guy. There is no way a random minor character is so well connected.

Spoilers: Mara And Duke Growing Closer?

'Haven'
(Photo : SyFy) Mara and Duke may grow closer in the next episode.
In the last episode, Duke released Mara from imprisonment so that they could team up together and save the town. Also, it was discovered that Dr. Cross is not actually with the Center for Disease Control.

In the next episode, Duke and Mara will be forced to receive help from dangerous allies. They also appear to be growing closer based on promotional photos released. However, Duke is seen in the promo saying, "I knew I couldn't trust you," implying that Mara may possibly betray him.

The video shows Cross giving Audrey a shot. This is troubling now that we know Dr. Cross isn't who she says she is. She may not even be a real doctor for all we know. When are the people of Haven going to confront her?

5.10 Mortality Recap

With just two more episodes until the midseason finale, Haven is securely in plot-setup land. As has been the case in every season of Haven, it’s a struggle to get through these last few episodes before the eventual finale payoff.

“Mortality” lacked the quirk and charm of Haven, instead drilling information into our faces that will inevitably solve all of the troubles in the next three weeks. But fans of Haven know that whatever is in store for us at the end of this season will make tedious episodes like “Mortality” worth it, so we carry on.

The town is terrified of the trouble-targeting contagion and is still firmly in quarantine. Rebecca and Stan are fiercely guarding the only exit out of town. Well, Rebecca is guarding it fiercely; Stan is taking bribes. Audrey tries to get out of Haven, but she is stopped. Luckily, Nathan pulls up and is able to talk Audrey’s way through the barricade. That man could talk his way out of anything. It’s the way he walks. Nathan Wuornos melts even the coldest hearts.

Review: 5.09 Morbidity

Haven Season 5 Episode 9 Morbitidy (3)

The CDC is in Haven and ready to cause some serious trouble for the locals. Dr. Cross is suspicious of everything and convinced that Haven is on the verge of a massive viral outbreak. Nathan, Audrey and Dwight try desperately to keep her from encountering the Troubles, but things get out of hand. There’s only so much you can do to hide a creepy bear costume whose inhabitant alternates between invisible and a mutilated zombie.

I am not super in love with the CDC story. It seems like they could find someone with a memory Trouble and send Dr. Cross packing. They could even just lock her up with Mara rather than let her “call in the tanks.” Let’s be honest, the Guard could just off her. At the beginning of the episode, I was hoping that we were going to dig into Dave’s leg and dream, but instead we got tangled up in Contagion. Dr. Cross is also kind of irritating, and I’m not so interested in having her stick around to be Dwight’s love interest.

Recap: 5.07 Nowhere Man (Spoilers)

Monday, November 03, 2014

Review: 5.08 Exposure (Spoilers)

One half of the Darkside Seekers, Seth Byrne, formerly seen in Haven Season 4 Episode 11, stopped by Haven Season 5 Episode 8.

I'll be honest. I don't remember him. Now? He was a breath of fresh air. If the quote didn't belong to Duke, the witty remark was coming out of Seth's mouth. What a difference a year makes. I likely still had so much hope for everyone that I didn't take note of Seth. Sorry Seth, you rocked it tonight.

Mousy Audrey had to come out of her funk to solve a Trouble on her own in order to save Nathan. That's something Seth has some experience with since he was once a duo and now on his own. He had the pep and vigor required to launch Audrey out of the chair.

Together they made gizmos and looked beyond the Trouble to the people (as Seth so eloquently put it) so that they could discover how a Trouble truly started. They didn't get it right, necessarily, but close enough to play ball.

Haven: Smile for the Camera

Haven
Only in Haven can there be a trouble that involves a camera that does not record the smiles of its victims, but their last moment as a corporeal entity. In other words, the last impression the objects in the lens leave is a Peter Pan type shadow or, as Nathan, Audrey, Duke and Mara believe, a nuclear blast ashprint. It turns out that all four are wrong about what the shadow signifies although, Mara probably had a pretty good idea, especially since she is the one who helps to solve the riddle of where the trouble originated. While that may not be too much of an imaginative stretch, she did, after all, pass out the original troubles in Haven years ago, and it should be remembered that Mara has been around for a long, long time.
Haven this week features one of the busier episodes in terms of multiple plot threads and it even features a few excellent references to Stephen King’s world of fiction. According to SyFy on their Haven site, two characters are alluded to in the show, Dr. Reynolds is a nod to Susan Reynolds in King’s follow up book to The Shining, Dr. Sleep, and the further adventures of Danny Torrence and character number two is Reginald “Pop” Merrill. The owner/operator of Castle Rock’s The Emporium Galorium is a fan favorite and the writer has brought Merrill, “out of retirement” so to speak several times, one of these times is in the short story that this episode of Haven uses as a plot device.

Emily Rose Talks Mara-Audrey Aftermath and ‘Orphan Black’ Comparisons (Possible Spoilers)

'Haven' Star Emily Rose Talks Mara-Audrey Aftermath and 'Orphan Black' Comparisons

“I feel like we need a support group to talk about all our multiple personalities,” the actress jokes to TheWrap about “Orphan Black's” Tatiana Maslany

Syfy's “Haven” pulled off a twist no one saw coming when it separated its leading lady into two distinct — but identical — characters.

Series star Emily Rose, who now plays both Audrey Parker and her evil counterpart Mara, told TheWrap that she's glad she gets to keep both personalities for the foreseeable future

“I was a little scared to let Mara go,” Rose said. “Fortunately, I didn't have to do that.”

Mara and Audrey are now running around Haven, Maine, at the same time, though Audrey has a little more freedom, while her new twin sis is locked up in the cargo hold of Duke's (Eric Balfour) boat.

It's been a few years now since Audrey Parker was just Audrey, without any other personalities or memories plaguing her perpetual identity crisis.

“I had to re-familiarze myself with who Audrey really was and the strong aspects of her character,” Rose explained. “Mara is such a force to be reckoned with that I didn't want Audrey to come off as weaker, or as somebody who wasn't as sassy — because that's something we've always admired about her, too. I approached it like, Audrey's a little more pared down, a little more simple. Audrey really has a hold of Haven and knows what's going on there so it was making sure she wasn't afraid and always knew what she had to do. Always on a mission.”

Steve Lund Returning to 'Haven' As the Colorado Kid (Spoilers)

Steve Lund Returning to 'Haven' as the Colorado Kid (Exclusive)
The actor will reprise his role in the second half of Season 5 of the Syfy series
A fan-favorite character — not to mention dangling plot point — is returning to “Haven.”
Steve Lund, who played James Cogan, aka the Colorado Kid, on Season 3 of the Syfy series, will return to reprise his role, TheWrap has learned.

“Haven” revolves around an FBI agent named Audrey Parker (Emily Rose), who shows up in the titular small coastal Maine town and ends up discovering she has deep ties to the town and its supernatural roots.

Lund's Cogan, whose cold case murder kicked off Audrey's search for the truth, was revealed to be her son on the third season finale, and has been absent from the show since.

“Haven” is currently airing its fifth season, which was given a double order of 26 episodes, with the first 13 airing now and the latter half to air in 2015. Lund will appear on the second half of the season.
Lund is currently filming Season 2 of Syfy's vampire drama “Bitten,” where he is a series regular.Amanda Rosenthal Talent and Untitled Entertainment represent Lund.

Episode 5.08 Title Revealed + Audrey's Return Announced, Problems With Nathan (Spoilers)

Haven's Audrey Parker will be back to her regular self by episode 7.

Haven's resident Trouble-maker will take her aether and hit the bricks - either back to the void or into a casket - before the series heads into "Nowhere Man."

Before Mara (Emily Rose) makes her departure, however, she will hit peak form during "The Old Switcheroo" and "The Old Switcheroo: Part 2."

"While Mara is pretty cool in the first episode I feel like episode 5, 6, 7 she really, really hits true Mara form which is really exciting," Rose said, according to Spoiler TV.

As per usual, Audrey (Rose) and Nathan (Lucas Bryant) won't get to celebrate their victory for long. The "Nowhere Man" trouble of the week will separate the newly reunited couple, and Audrey won't have her usual trouble immunity to help her solve Haven's latest disaster.

The loss of Audrey's magic immunity to the troubles will lead her to call in outside help during episode 8, "Exposure."

Find out more when Haven airs on Syfy at a new day and time - Fridays at 7 p.m. ET.

And as Dwight labors to keep Haven’s secrets hidden, the scientist uncovers a genetic marker that just might lead to a cure for the Troubles that torment the town.

This Friday in Haven‘s new time slot premiere: Vince and Dave journey to North Carolina to investigate the mysteries of Dave’s past, but their probing unearths a body swapping trouble that affects our people back in Haven.

Nathan & Duke To Face 'Unexpected Consequences' From Talking To Audrey (Spoilers)

Haven

Haven's heroes may have stiffened Mara's resolve against Audrey with their "Triple Exorcism," and the trio will have to work much harder reach Parker in the future.

Nathan (Lucas Bryant), Duke (Eric Balfour), and Dwight (Adam Copeland) teamed up at the end of "Much Ado About Mara" in order to bring Audrey's (Emily Rose) personality to the forefront, and while the men received some helpful information for their efforts, Mara now knows that Audrey has secretly been coming out to play.

Just like Nathan shooting Agent Howard, it seems good intentions have once again run awry.

"We are a show that largely lives in the world of unintended consequences," said writer Speed Weed, according to Revisiting Haven. "What do you do when you live in a magical world where you don't know the rules? It's not like a cop show...where you do things and have a pretty good probabilistic sense of what's going to happen. In Trouble land, you really don't. You don't have a handle on it. So you try your best option and the wrong thing happens."

Hopefully Nathan's next plan will work a little better - in "The Old Switcheroo: Part 2," he and Duke will make a "desperate and dangerous gamble" for Audrey Parker's life.

Haven Fans Trek to Chester

Haven stars Lucas Bryant, right, Emily Rose and camera operator Andrew Stretch perform for fans at a fundraising event in Chester on Saturday. (MICHAEL TOMPKINS)

If the folks who track tourism numbers in the Chester area have noticed an uptick this summer, they may want to send a thank-you card to the television series Haven.

While the supernatural show has been on the radar of fans for a while, this was the year many decided to trek to the town that serves as the primary setting for a fictional town in Maine where really bad things often happen to its quirky inhabitants.

“It’s something that’s been very unique to this season,” says series star Emily Rose. “There had been a huge response at the fan events, the Comic-Cons, and other things they send us to. But what we've never had in this quantity is people saving their money and flying out to Nova Scotia, and coming specifically to Chester, and showing up on our set to watch us film.”

Rose, who plays Audrey Parker, a transplanted FBI agent-turned town cop, said folks from across North America and as far away as Monaco, Italy, Germany and Belgium have made the pilgrimage to the South Shore to see the real location for themselves.

‘Haven’ Showrunners Preview Season 5's ‘Fight’ for Audrey's Soul, Tease Colorado Kid's Return

'Haven' Showrunners Preview Season 5's 'Fight' for Audrey's Soul, Tease Colorado Kid's Return
Matt McGuinness and Gabrielle Stanton told TheWrap what fans can expect from the upcoming season of the Syfy series

Season 4 of Syfy's “Haven” left off with the show's protagonist apparently turned into a major new antagonist with the upcoming fifth season, not surprisingly, focusing primarily on how to get her back.
“The heart and soul of ‘Haven’ is Audrey Parker,” the show's executive producer Gabrielle Stanton told TheWrap.

But Audrey (Emily Rose) is a bit lost as Season 5 opens with her as a new incarnation who calls herself Mara. At the end of Season 4, Colin Ferguson's character William was banished to another dimension through a portal in the town's lighthouse — though not before bringing Mara out from somewhere deep inside Audrey.

“William has unfortunately achieved his season-long goal of bringing out Mara from inside Audrey,” executive producer Matt McGuinness recapped the last finale. “So, the first 13 episodes of season 5 are really going to be about… Audrey is now Mara, and how can we get Audrey back?”
Nobody is more concerned with getting Audrey back more than Nathan (Lucas Bryant), who has become increasingly focused on saving the woman he loves from everything from supernatural barns to alternate dimensions to her own sordid history. Getting Audrey back is “Nathan's goal most of all since they love each other,” said Stanton. “But it's everyone's goal.”

And since it's a love for Audrey that's motivating everyone's desire to bring her back, there will be bigger implications as time goes on. “Getting Audrey back is crucial to saving the town,” McGuinness hinted.
“We're always asking who is Audrey Parker? What is Audrey Parker? Why is Audrey Parker?” said Stanton. “We asked that question in the pilot episode, really. We've met her past incarnations – Sarah, Lucy, Lexie, and now we're getting to know Mara, but it's really the journey of Audrey Parker. Season 5 we've been saying has kind of been the fight for the soul of Audrey Parker. By the end of the first 13 episodes, we're really going to resolve that in a huge way.”
